| While most Forerunner technology appears to support safe usage over immense passages of time, the failure of specific systems can cause a cascading effect which dramatically impacts a site’s foundational composition. This frigid moon’s icy conditions once served to control a Forerunner reactor’s intense heat, but those days are now long gone. |
Meltdown is a complicate medium to large size map with two major levels and then multiple points to go in between the two. The lower levels are small valleys that wrap through a mountainous terrain while the upper level consists of pathways that spiral along those mountains or across the valley. While the lower level is largely ignored, it's pretty important to at least keep an eye on it since most of the vehicles spawn in the valley rather than on the upper level.
Most combat on this map takes place on the upper levels at various chokepoints between the two teams. As the fighting goes on, Mantis and Ghost tend to join the fight which seems to create an almost endless skirmish. Frequently, however, enemies will go around the sides and use the many paths to flank and get an advantage.
While the map is rather large, it is largely segmented by twists and turns in the terrain. For this reason, it is much better to bring a DMR or BR to the fight. Even the Assault Rifle can get a good amount of use on this map if you tend to end up towards the front of a fire fight.
Because almost the entire map is two tiered, the jet pack can get a lot of good use on this map. Promethean vision can be useful for keeping track of enemies as they retreat around the many corners on this map. It is excellent for guaging the enemy strength when they might be just out of radar range. Even the hardlight shield which isn't a particularly common armor ability can be useful for the front line people who may be carrying assault rifles. When you combine the two, it gives them an extra survivability on the front lines of the fire fight.
