King of the Hill is a returning gametype in Halo 4 where the goal is to capture and hold a marked zone on the map for points. In most matchmaking instances, King of the Hill is actually Crazy King which varies only in that the hill moves after an alotted time. Each hill will only have so many points that it can give out and as those points tick down, a new hill will open up elsewhere. In most cases, the hill will have to be held exclusively by one team.
Since King of the Hill is a team game, choosing your weapon is best decided by complimenting your team. If everyone has gone with longer range weapons such as the DMR and the BR then go instead with the Assault Rifle. The goal is to only have one or two people in the hill, preferably with closer range weapons, while the rest of the team supports from outside of the hill.
Picking a secondary weapon is a bit tougher since they are decent close range weapons. The Magnum is a good, close range precision weapon but sometimes combat is too close and one of the other weapons would be better. The Plasma Pistol can help with longer range weapons (especially if you are supporting) but it is also a good beat down weapon. In the hill, it can help to just charge and then beat down. The Boltshot is a nice in between. It is capable of precision shooting (not as well as the magnum however) and can be charged for a shotgun like blast. This is a matter of preference and comfort however since they are all situationally useful.
Two armor abilties really shine in King of the Hill. The first is the Regenerative Field. While you can't use armor abilities inside of the hill, that doesn't mean that you can't benefit from them so drop your field just outside of the back end of the hill and you can still use it inside the hill. After that is Active Camo which is particularly useful if you are acting as support. One of the toughest things to do as a support player is to watch both the hill and your back where enemies will likely spawn. Using Active Camo can protect you from the back and allow you to focus on the front.
The support mods that you use can vary depending on the role that you are filling. For those in the hill, extra grenades, shield recharge, or weapon changing are generally top of the line while extra ammo is particularly useful for support players.
