Infinity Slayer is the new default playlist for Halo and replaces the classic Team Slayer of previous installments. Games consist of two teams of four in a race to 60 kills. Players can drop in and out of a game at will so that there are always full teams playing. While the maps can be on the small to medium side, keep in mind that some of these maps will still have light vehicles such as Ghosts available.
Gameplay
During the match, players will earn style points in addition to getting 10 points per kill. These style points are different depending on the feat accomplished. Your kill points add together with your style points (which do not effect the score of the game) to charge up your Ordnance meter. Once it is filled, the player is then given the option of three weapons or power-ups that they can have dropped into the game for them. These frequently take the form of power weapons or boosts to movement speed or damage. For this reason, cooperating well with teammates to get assists or surviving to get sprees will give you an edge in weaponry.
Weapons are dropped in at predetermined points at the beginning of the round and remain there until they are picked up. After that, the spawn timing and locations of weapons are randomized. This means that while you may have found a secure place to camp, you may find that the weapon you most need to hold this position (a sniper rifle for instance) may spawn across the map, forcing you out of your position.
Weapons
Most of the maps in this game type tend to be in the medium range. Some of the maps can be a little on the small side but you will not find any of the biggest maps. For this reason, it is usually best to bring either the DMR or BR to the fight. The Carbine is also a good choice but the Lightrifle can frequently be forced into a closer range fight where it is at a disadvantage.
Any of the secondary weapons or grenades will do well in this mode depending on your play style and how they are coupled with your armor abilities.
Armor Abilities
Despite being on the smaller side, the maps tend to be both dense and pack a lot of verticle play space in. Promethean Vision can help a lot with the tight corners though if you are experienced with the motion tracker, it may be useless or even distracting rather than helpful.
The Jet Pack is also very useful on these maps because of the multiple levels that these maps frequently have. A good hand with a jet pack can create flanking opportunities that wouldn't otherwise exist.
Possibly the most useful Armor Ability, however, would be the Regeneration Field. Infinity Slayer matches can frequently end up in tight hallways or at corners with both teams facing off against each other. Having a Regenerative Field for teammates to back into for a moment can be the difference between being at a 4-3 disadvantage or a 3-4 advantage from which the battle can swing wildly.
Tactical Package
Depending on what you picked for your Armor Ability, your tactical package would vary significantly. If you decided to go with the Regeneration Field, possibly the best pairing would be AA Efficiency. When put together, you can use the Regenerative Field almost constantly which can easily break a stalemate. It can also lead to longer lives, however, so the Resupply package may be helpful.
Mobility can be both a good thing and a waste, depending how the match goes. Since the maps are smaller, it's not always necessary to have that but the matches tend to be fast paced so the few seconds without sprint could be the different between your team winning or losing a crucial fire fight.
Lastly, Firepower falls into a similar category. Since death can be quite frequent, having two primary weapons may not be particularly useful, especially since you are likely already packing a DMR or BR which tends to be pretty versatile. However, since it is common for matches to fluctuate frequently between medium and very close range, having an AR as your extra weapon could help dramatically at certain points.
Support Upgrade
Almost every Support Upgrade can be useful in Infinity Slayer. In fact, I'd go so far to say that the Support Upgrades were designed to all be viable in Infinity Slayer before anything else. Since maps can be small, using the Sensor upgrade can give you a read of most of the map. On the flip side, it could also be said that it is a waste since most of the maps are so tight and dense that most enemies will need to be at close range to attack you anyway.
Awareness can be pretty helpful since you'll likely be using a BR or DMR but because the maps are small, you may find yourself firing from the hip more often than not. Ammo is probably one of the weakest since people die frequently in matches. This is only really useful if you're using the Regenerative Field since that playstyle can frequently increase your life span and put you at the back of the field where you'll expend lots of ammo in a support role rather than to clean up kills.
Explosives is an uncommon Support Upgrade but in the small maps of an Infinity Slayer match, you'll probably encounter quite a few grenades on a regular basis. However, grenades don't have the same blast radius that they used to have and the fact that they can't be readily picked up during a match does limit its effectiveness. This is doubly true if you have the Jet Pack or Mobility since those could allow you to avoid the damage completely.
Since the matches are so quick, Dexterity is a pretty good choice since the split second difference in switching weapons or reloading could be the difference between a point for yourself or a point for your enemy.
Ordnance Priority can be exceptionally useful in an Infinity Slayer match. It is actually much more useful if you are playing with a good team because that will amplify how many points you get in the first place.
