Covenant Weapons are largely based on different types of energy use. Most weapons are based on Plasma or Lasers to deal damage though some others use unusual energy sources like the pink crystals of the Needler. It is not uncommon for some of these weapons to have certain homing abilities, especially when using an alternate fire method like the Plasma Pistol's charged shot.
While it is assumed that all Covenant weapons CAN be reloaded, how to do so with some of the weapons is unknown, requiring the weapon to be discarded when depleted rather than recharged.
