The Mulcher is a heavy weapon that can shoot high caliber armor piercing rounds at a very high rate. The weapon is operated by a hand crank and can shoot continuously until it is emptied. When a player gets hold of one of these weapons, the ammo supply is limited and can't be refilled without replacing the entire weapon.
During the campaign, the only way of getting one of these weapons is to take it from a Grinder. However, once you have it, it can be an invaluable piece of equipment. If possible, hold onto it until larger enemies such as Corpsers or large waves of Boomers appear and you'll be able to use it to clear the entire wave in one go.
