The Tripwire Crossbow is like a high powered version of the Torque Bow. The weapon has to be charged similar to how the Torque Bow is but once it is fully drawn, it can be used to shoot the bolts into anything, including metal and stone walls. Once it's been lodged in a wall, the bolt then emits a beam from the back end and if the beam is cross, it launches a high powered explosive.
This makes it a great weapon for laying traps or setting up defenses at a chokepoint. Despite its great use for laying traps, it's also an incredibly powerful weapon on its own. If you use it like a Torque Bow, it is capable of killing much larger enemies such as Boomers in a single shot which the Torque Bow is not capable of.
