Grand Theft Auto V is set in Los Santos, known as the 'City of Saints', and its surrounding hills, countryside and beaches. It is loosely based on the real world city of Los Angeles, California.
Despite nominally only being based around one city, the world of Grand Theft Auto V is actually bigger than Red Dead Redemption, San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto IV combined.
Key locations include beachfronts, wine country, a wilderness area surrounding Mt. Chiliad, a Salt Sea region, a military base and of course the city of Los Santos itself.
You can also fully explore a detailed and expansive underwater area by scuba diving or making use of the new submarine. This 'underwater world' is fully landscaped and features a host of fish, sharks, plants and caves to explore.
Los Santos is fully explorable from the beginning, unlike in previous Grand Theft Auto games where you would be restricted to a certain area of the map until you completed certain key story missions.
The following pages detail some of the key locations found in the game.
