At first Splinter Group may sound like a crack on Splinter Cell but it's actually a nod to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
- Splinter is the mentor and sensei of the Ninja Turtles.
- When you drop down, you'll be informed that you've entered the "Rat's Nest". Splinter is a rat.
- The mission has you bringing a disgusting pizza (the Turtles favorite food) down to a sewer.
- When you hit the buzzer to bring the food in, you'll be told to come on in "dude", a word commonly used by Michelangelo.
- After you place the pizza, one of them will shout, "What the hell - you're not June!" which is a reference to the character April O'Neal. Instead of April, they used another month/name.
- When you get down there, you'll be attacked by four "tunnel rat" type enemies, a nod to the fact that the Turtles lived in the sewer tunnels.
- Lee, the first enemy you encounter is based on Leonardo, the leader of the four turtles. He wears a blue hood and shirt (Blue was Leonardo's color) and weilds two swords, Leondardo's signature weapons.
- The second enemy is Dan, based on Donatello. Interestingly, it appears that despite using a gun, he has a large stick strapped across his back in the fashion the Donatello had his staff. He also wears purple clothing.
- Enemy three is Ralph who is based on Raphael. He wears a dark red though he didn't seem to have his normal Sai weapons.
- Enemy four is Mick, based on Michelangelo and wears orange. Unfortunately I killed him to quickly to see what his weapon was.
- After defeating the Splinter Group, you can go through the back door of their sewer and you'll eventually come to a sort of living area. If you solve the light puzzle that opens the loot chest, you'll be attacked by a man named Flinter, likely a reference to Splinter considering.
- The pizza that you deliver has fish on it when you open it. The Ninja Turtles were particularly fond of anchovies on their pizza.
- When you go to turn in the mission, the description will simply read, "References!".
